Dr. Nishu Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Chaman Lal Mahavidyalaya (Autonomous), was honored with the “Devbhoomi Shiksha Utkrishtata Award” by Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat.The award was presented during a state-level ceremony held in Haldwani. He received this recognition for his innovative research work, publication of national and international research papers, project-based research, student-centric teaching methods, skill development initiatives, and socially oriented academic contributions.The program was jointly organized by Amar Ujala, MIET Kumaon, and SIC Devbhoomi Foundation. The objective of the event was to encourage teachers, academicians, and researchers who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and to promote an experimental and innovation-driven approach to education.Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the Education Minister stated that such initiatives are aligned with the vision of strengthening scientific curiosity, experiential learning, and a culture of innovation among students. He emphasized that priority is being given to research-based and laboratory-oriented teaching to ensure quality education in the state.Distinguished guests at the event included Professor Naveen Chandra Lohani, Vice-Chancellor of Uttarakhand Open University, and Professor Diwan Singh Bisht, Vice-Chancellor of Kumaun University. Both highlighted the importance of innovation in education, research orientation, and skill development among students.During the ceremony, selected educators and researchers from 13 districts of the state were honored, including 50 school teachers, professors from 15 higher education institutions, and 10 scientific researchers for their academic excellence, innovation, and social contributions. Among them, Dr. Nishu Kumar was especially recognized for his multidimensional academic achievements.Dr. Kumar has played a significant role in nurturing research aptitude among students through project-based learning, organizing seminars and workshops, and conducting community-oriented programs aimed at making youth more aware and capable. Notably, he has previously also been honored with the “Teacher of the Year” award by the Honorable Chief Minister.Chairman of the college management committee, Pandit Ramkumar Sharma, described the honor as a matter of pride not only for the institution but for the entire region, adding that Dr. Kumar’s dedication serves as an inspiration to both teachers and students.The Principal of the college, Dr. Sushil Upadhyay, stated that the recognition is a moment of great pride and motivation for the entire college family. He noted that Dr. Kumar has consistently worked with commitment toward research, innovation, and the holistic development of students, and that this honor reflects the institution’s academic excellence.The event also featured the “Devbhoomi Little Scientist” competition, in which school students enthusiastically participated in science innovation and problem-solving activities. Students showcased their creativity through project displays, innovation prototypes, idea posters, and presentations.It is noteworthy that the last date for applications for this state-level honor was January 15. Around 200 participants applied, and after a rigorous selection process, educators and researchers with outstanding contributions were chosen for the award.
