“From Pickle Making to Nursery Training – A Strong Step Towards Self-Employment for Prisoners”

Under the direction of Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Almora, Ms. Shashi Sharma, various vocational training programs are being continuously conducted to encourage rehabilitation, skill development and self-reliance of the prisoners lodged in the District Jail, Almora.In this context, a five-day “Pickle Making Training Program” was successfully organized for prisoners, conducted by Mrs. Geetanjali Bhoj. During the training, prisoners were provided practical training in hygienic and scientific pickle making, quality control, packaging, storage, and marketing, enabling them to develop self-employment opportunities after release.A three-day training program has been launched on the topic “Nursery and Vegetable Plant Production: A Powerful Medium of Self-Employment.” This training is being provided by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, an agricultural expert at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Matela, Almora. Inmates are being provided detailed information on nursery management, advanced plant production techniques, quality seed selection, organic methods, and marketing strategies to help them become self-reliant.Rights friend Neeta Negi Kadakoti was also present in this training.Through such rehabilitation oriented programmes, District Legal Services Authority, Almora is making continuous efforts for the social rehabilitation of prisoners and their integration with the mainstream.
